All substrates must be completely dry, pure, dust-free, grease-free & smooth. If necessary a rough / textured substrate can be used as well for Tierrafino Finish.
All smooth substrates, like plasterboards, concrete, varnish, glaze, glass, etc., must be cleaned thoroughly. If necessary a fat-dissolver should be used. The smooth walls should now be prepared with Tierrafino Contact (Primer), before Tierrafino Finish earth plaster is applied.
Rough / structured substrates like brickwork, straw matts, metal mesh or willow-plaiting should be prepaired with Tierrafino Base. Thickness applied per layer should be 10 - 15 mm. When a surface is very rough / uneven two or more layers of Tierrafino Base can be applied ( for info on Base natural earth plaster please see Tierrafino Base on this website).
The substrate must be completely dry, pureand free of dust and grease. If necessary a rough / textured substrate can be used as well for Tierrafino Finish.
As Tierrafino earth plaster contains no adhesives, it sets mechanically instead of chemically. Therefore a coarse/rough substrate is needed, a texture as in sharp broken sands which are contained in Tierrafino Contact (for info on Tierrafino Contact please see Contact page on this website).
Joints between plaster boards should be covered with joint tape and then filled with joint filler. With every 1 mm of gypsum filler that is applied, let the filler dry for 1,5 day before applying Tierrafino Contact.
Now apply Tierrafino Contact onto the wall using either a brush or a roller.
After sufficient drying time, apply Tierrafino Finish.
On all the different loam-blocks and loam-boards at least a layer of 8 mm Tierrafino Base should be applied.
On rough grated walls Tierrafino Finish can be applied without prior treatment. The walls used have to be thoroughly dry.
Old and loose plaster leftovers should be removed from walls. Prepare the bare walls with Contact and even out Tierrafino Base earth plaster.
Porous substrates should first be thoroughly cleaned, before treatment with Tierrafino Fix. Then apply Tierrafino Contact to act as a mechanical key for Tierrafino Finish.
Fast absorbent substrates, like lime-stone blocks, gypsum-blocks, Gibo-blocks, etc., should be treated first with Tierrafino Contact (2x), or apply Tierrafino Finish clay plaster in two stages.
Metal profiles can be pushed into the wet Finish, or can be screwed onto the wall prior to application of Contact or Finish. It is recommended to reinforce exterior corners with jute or glass fibre mesh. This gives the corners extra strength, so the corner becomes chip-proof. Another solution on exterior corners is to place a corner protecting profile on top of Finish, fix this to the wall with screws, do not glue a profile onto Finish.
Interior and exterior corners, cracks and transitional materials should be pre-handled with glass fibre wire, jute, straw or stone-wire (with very rough transitional materials). If necessary the walls first have to be plastered. All different plasters from earth plaster should be dried at least 2 days per applied mm.
Wooden slats (2.5 by 7.5 cm) should be applied on wooden constructions. After the application of the wooden slats, reed mats should be stapled onto the wooden slats. Now 2 layers of Tierrafino Base can be applied on the reed mats. It’s important to first let the first layer of Tierrafino Base dry thoroughly, before the second layer of Tierrafino Base is applied.
Before applying Tierrafino Finish on Herakliet-boards or Pavatex- softboards, Tierrafino Base should be applied in 2 coats of 6-12 mm. In between these 2 layers glass fibre wire should be applied on the wall over the whole area.
Wallpaper should be removed before Tierrafino Finish is applied. Nail and screw holes with a maximum diameter of 1/8th of an inch can be filled with Tierrafino Finish. Leave this to dry, after drying the wall used should be prepared with Tierrafino Contact to create a mechanical key for Tierrafino Finish.
When a surface contains fungus or stays moist continually, it will show through Tierrafino Finish. In this situation the use of a partition wall is advisable. Construction: Attach damp-open paper to the wall, now apply wooden slats (2.5 bij 7.5 cm). On these wooden slats, reed mats should be stapled. The next step is to apply 2 layers of Tierrafino Base. It’s important to first let the first layer dry thoroughly before the second layer of Tierrafino Base is applied.
With a wall heating system (pipes on wall), Tierrafino Base should be applied in 3 layers, with a minimum of 13 mm per layer. Between the 2nd and 3rd layer glass fibre wire should be applied over the complete surface.
With a wall heating system (pipes in wall), Tierrafino Base should be applied in 2 layers, with a minimum of 20 mm in total. In between the 2 layers glass fibre wire can be applied, although it isn’t necessary.
With steel constructions, wooden slats (2.5 by 7.5 cm) should be applied. Reed mats should be stapled to the wooden slats. Now Tierrafino Base can be applied in 2 layers, again it’s important to let the first layer dry thoroughly before applying the 2nd layer.
Grime, fungus and rust stains have to be pre-handled with a primer. Now Tierrafino Contact has to be applied (2 layers) before the Tierrafino Finish earth plaster is used.
For plastering of ceilings the same methods can be used as with walls, but now the wooden slats of the sub-construction must be at a distance of 15 cm from each other.
