Tierrafino Stucco Lustro application

Properties

Stucco Lustro Tierrafino Lustro is a shiny clay based stucco for interior walls that is applied with a roller, brush or trowel. Lustro is not suitable for filling holes.

On equally coloured substrates a well covering result can be reached with application of 2 coats.

Tools

Mixing buckets, brushes, small roller, plastic trowel, thin plastic, masking tape, sponge and warm water for cleaning.

Substrate

Substrates must be dry, absorbent and free of dust and grease. If necessary clean substrate with a grease dissolving cleanser. Roughen smooth substrates with sandpaper. A coarse substrate can be used.

Mixing

Lustro is ready to use when opening the bucket. It is possible to add a little water to Lustro in a new bucket to apply very thin layers for a deeper effect. In this case you must apply more layers to achieve a covering result.

Application of 1st coat

Apply Lustro with roller, brush or a trowel in a thin coat, approx. 0,2-0,5 mm thick. Spread Lustro well in a few movements of your tools immediately after application. Let Lustro set for a while to achieve a good adhesion with the substrate.

After a few minutes waiting the surface can be polished smooth with a plastic trowel. By pressing less hard and harder smaller and larger areas in the surface may be closed/polished smooth.

Polish the 1st layer of Lustro smooth; not shiny. You can see shine first looking along side the surface, not straight onto the surface.

When polishing Lustro is done too early, the largest parts in the stucco will be dragged along by the trowel, these leave traces, or scratches in the surface through which one can see the substrate. When this happens, wait a few minutes, after some setting these parts will have settled and not be dragged along by the trowel anymoreWhen the color of the substrate is similar to the color of the colour Lustro, it is possible to achieve a well covering result with application of one coat of approx 0,5 mm thickness. In most cases application of 2 coats will give the desired result.

This also occurs wih application of the 2nd coat, it softens the 1st coat. When this happens, wait a few minutes, after some setting these parts will have settled and not be dragged along by the trowel anymore.

Now polish Lustro to a shine. Shine will appear as a consequence of both polishing and drying.

As long as Lustro still contains a certain amount of moisture, a shine will not be seen on Lustro. Shine will become visable in a later stage of drying. By polishing the surface regularly with a plastic trowel, small particles in the material are brought up to the surface. When Lustro has lost a certain amount of its moisture and therefor can not be compressed anymore, there is a moment where the smallest parts are laid flat on the surface by polishing. This can be done with a very thin plastic bag, a plastic trowel or a polishing stone as used with application of Tadelakt.

Drying

Let Lustro dry. Covering capacity of Lustro can be seen best after drying.

Finishing

To protect Stucco Lustro at exposed areas, apply a water based wax or varnish.

Use a bees wax, carnauba wax or a acrylic wax for more durability of the surface.Use a wax that dries quickly. Lustro is damp open and will even dissolve again when it is rubbed too hard and too long.

During application of wax, Lustro will turn dark in colour. The moisture in the wax will go into Lustro and then dry out. After application  and drying of wax, Lustro will have a darker colour.

Read the application instructions on packaging of wax for a good good finish of wax. 

Drying time

Tierrafino Lustro, depending on substrate and circumstances, is dry after 1-12 hours.

Tierrafino Lustro is hardened out after 2 weeks.

Cleaning

Tierrrafino Lustro can only be washed with water and soap after it has been treated with a water resistant wax.

m²/bucket 5 L

One bucket 5 L Tierrafino Lustro will cover approx. 10 m², when the substrate is equal in colour.

One can 0,75 L Tierrafino Lustro will cover approx. 1,5 m², when the substrate is equal in colour.

The approximate daily output of an artisan is 15 m².

Daily production

Depending on the applicator's skills, an area of between 10 and 20 m² can be covered with application of 2 coats.
